When people think about visiting South America, many people dream about going to Brazil. After all, Brazil is famous for its festivals, beaches, and football! But what about Argentina?
In February 2019, the Argentine government included the Philippines in the list of selected countries who can have easier access to Argentine visa. While this is great news, there’s a catch. You still need to have a non-immigrant B2 US visa to enjoy this so-called advantage. To put it simply, you need a US visa first so you can get an Argentina visa easier.
The Easier Way To Argentina
What most people don’t know is that there’s an even easier way to travel to Argentina visa-free for life. The Grenada Citizenship-by-Investment program, which started in August 2013, allows successful applicants a lifetime Grenadian citizenship. This so-called “golden passport” allows Grenada citizens visa-free access to over 140 countries including Argentina, Brazil, China, UK, Russia, and the Schengen Area.
Unlike in the traditional route where Filipinos would have had to uproot their families and businesses and start anew in another country and spend years there to become citizens, the Grenada Citizenship-by-Investment program allows Filipinos to access to a second citizenship without the need to travel or spend years in the other country. In fact, you don’t even need to fly to Grenada during the application process.
Once you receive your golden passport from Grenada, you can travel to Argentina with your family in tow! And when you do get to Argentina, here are some of the things you need to experience firsthand.
- Go on a hike and see the Andes Mountains.
Aptly called the “Backbone of South America,” the Andes Mountains stretch almost the entire length of Argentina’s western edge. Going on a hike here will give you the chance to see the country’s amazing lakes and high deserts as well as the Cerro Aconcagua, which is South America’s highest peak.
- Get lost in the crowd of Buenos Aires.
Argentina’s capital city is one of the most exciting cities on the whole continent. Apart from the buzzing street art, mouthwatering food, and quaint neighborhoods, Buenos Aires loves to party all night long. Not fond of the nightlife? That’s okay, you can still enjoy the street scene and watch a live tango dance. And speaking of tango…
- Learn how to tango.
You’re in Argentina, after all, and Buenos Aires is the birthplace of this alluring dance. Find a “milonga” in Argentina, which is a place that people go to learn the dance live. There are many and you will surely find one near your hostel. Two left feet? That’s fine, you can still watch the pros and the amateur dance on the street.
- Eat at Café Tortoni.
The famous café first opened its doors to the public in 1858 and even if the place is swarming with both locals and tourist, it still remains a popular spot to grab a midday snack. If you’re not sure what to order, go for a medialuna, which is Argentina’s version of a sweet croissant. If you can’t go to Café Tortoni, try to find these sweet desserts in other cafes: alfajores, which are two soft cakes with a layer of dulce de leche in between, or crumble de manzana (apple crumble), which is a fairly new addition to the country’s dessert offering but is equally a must-try!
- Visit The San Telmo Market
If you love the Salcedo Saturday Market in Makati, then you’ll definitely love the San Telmo Market in Argentia. Have fun browsing at the wide selection of knick-knacks, antiques, and local handiworks. It’s a great place to get some pasalubong (souvenir) for family and friends back home. You can also enjoy some street eats here and watch live musical performances from street artists.
- Watch A Horse Racing Event
If you find yourself in Palermo, don’t miss out on watching a horse racing event live. The Argentinians are known for their horsemanship so this is something you really shouldn’t miss. You can also watch a polo match, especially in the months of September to November. If you can’t catch either event, you can still check the grandstands to see the horses in the paddock.
Fall In Love With Argentina!
Once you visit Argentina, you’ll understand why so many people from around the world want to visit over and over again. And now that the path to Argentina is easier than ever, why don’t you check the scene yourself?
